Manchester City winger Riyadh Mahrez announced that Liverpool had previously expressed an interest in signing him.
Having helped Leicester City win the Premier League in 2016, Mahrez gained a great deal of interest in his contract, before finally staying in the King Power Stadium.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a fruitful period at Etihad Stadium, contributing 21 goals and 26 assists from his 81 appearances in all competitions.
Speaking to beIN Sports on Instagram, Mahrez said:
“Before signing for Manchester City, Liverpool had an interest in me, but as soon as they took Mohamed Salah, it was done.”
So while joining Man City after two more years at Leicester City, Liverpool had also pursued him. The Algerian thus indicated that his career would have taken a different direction if Liverpool had not signed Mohamed Salah.
