Luca Toni, the former Fiorentina forward, says that “apart from Ciro Immobile, there is no Italian who scored more than 15 goals”, which he believes is a “true problem” for Italy in the attack.
Immobile is Serie A’s runaway Capocannoniere with 27 goals this season, but apart from Andrea Petagna and Francesco Caputo, the Italians have not scored more than 10 times.
Toni, on the other hand, came from a group of hitmen from Azzurri, including Christian Vieri, Filippo Inzaghi, Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti.
“Do you remember when we were in the national team?” said Toni during an Instagram Live session with Christian Vieri. “We were all great strikers and, if one of us hadn’t scored at least 20 goals, we’d make fun of them.
“Now, instead, apart from Immobile who’s doing really well, there’s no Italian who has scored more than 15 goals. It’s a real problem.”
