Clement Lenglet, centre-back in Barcelona, has confirmed that it is beneficial to a player to adopt the five-substitution rule.
“In general, the player will benefit from it because we will have many games every month in the heat and a lot of travel,” Lenglet told Movistar (via Marca) when asked about the new five-substitution rule. ” The footballer will be helped, we’ll see [about whether it helps] Barcelona. We don’t know if it will hurt us.”
Together with travel and warm temperatures, the number of games that will be played without much space between them means that this will help many footballers, although Barcelona coach Quique Setien believes it could work against his side. On this issue, Lenglet says:
“We know it’s a risk to play so many games with a two-month break and the heat, but we’ll prepare as best we can.
“This will be a new 11-match league and we’ll have to get as many points as possible to win. It’s like starting all over again.”
