Ronald Koeman had been taken to hospital on Sunday and had surgery. since being discharged from Amsterdam Hospital, he has now talked for the first time regarding the accident.
The Netherlands manager had a bike trip in Amsterdam with his wife Bartina and then suffered from chest pain. However, at the moment, agent Rob Jansen reported that the former Barcelona defender is in a stable condition.
Koeman posted on Twitter: “It was such a surprise last weekend, for me, but above all for my family and friends. Luckily the doctors treated me rapidly and immensely so I’m quite glad for that. You’re becoming quite grounded with an experience like this.
“It’s been amazing to see so many people were moved. I am thankful for all the warm messages I have got from people I meet and from clubs, but even from people I never met. That made me stronger and I am very thankful for that.
“At this moment I’m feeling really good. That ensures I’ll resume my work with maximum power as soon as the ball starts rolling again. Thanks for all the encouragement. We’ll see each other again.”
The 57-year-old would have expected to make arrangements for this summer’s European Championships, but they’ve been postponed for a year since coronavirus outbreak.
After the “shock” of having emergency heart treatment after he felt unwell over the weekend, he is “very healthy” now.
