The Football Association (FA) challenged FIFA’s decision in relation to Chelsea’s ban on transfers, with the appeal to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport next month.
Chelsea was recently disciplined for violation of the rules on the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18. The FA, after being fined as part of the decision, had previously stated its intention to appeal.
In February 2019, Chelsea was handed over a two-window transfer ban and fined, although both penalties were later reduced on appeal by allowing the club to sign players again this January.
The FA too, was fined originally- 510,000 Swiss francs (USD 391,000 at the time). This was reduced to 350,000 Swiss francs on appeal. The governing body was also given six months ‘to resolve the situation concerning the foreign transition and the first registration of minors in football.’
The FA replied, however, by saying that it will appeal and “continue to work with FIFA and Chelsea as constructive managers to resolve the concerns posed by this case.”
The case is now on the schedule of the CAS to be heard on 26 June.
