Samuel Eto’o revealed in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport how Jose Mourinho and Marco Materazzi persuaded him to come from Barcelona to Inter, with whom he later won the triplet.
“Mourinho persuaded me in a very simple way. He sent me a photo of Inter’s jersey number nine and wrote: ‘It’s yours, he’s waiting for you’,” said Eto’o and added, “then Materazzi called me and wrote that we would win everything if I came to Inter.”
He discloses his shock at receiving a call from Materazzi, “I didn’t have his number on my cell phone so I asked Albertini whose it was. Nothing like that ever happened to me, it really wasn’t hard for me to make a decision.”
