Dries Mertens has signed a revise agreement with Napoli worth € 4 million a year, not including bonuses. Belgium’s international thus seems projected to increase with Napoli.
Multiple reports in Italy say that Mertens has agreed to sign a new contract with Partenopei.says that it is a two-year deal worth € 4 million a year plus €500,000 in bonuses for the joint all-time leading goal scorer.
The fans in Naples begged the attacker to remain in San Paolo and if the news in Italian newspapers are to be relied upon, they seem to have persuaded the 33-year-old Inter target.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis, who yesterday gave Mertens a week to sign a contract or move on to new pastures, has shown his tenacity to keep one of the club’s main members and avoid seeing him when he travels to Milan next season.
The Azzurri are reportedly preparing the documents to tie the Belgian to the club until June 2022 and to pay him a fee of € 2.5 million.
Inter, who had offered Mertens a transfer to San Siro, was also linked to Edinson Cavani’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.
The contract with Uruguay expires in June and the former Napoli will move forward on a free transfer in the next window.
