Former Atletico Madrid midfielder Costinha believes that Joao Felix has to raise his game to meet the LaLiga Santander standard.
“[The problem] is related to the level of each league. At Benfica, he had unlimited chances to score and, in Spain, he’s facing a much more balanced reality,” Costinha told Eleven Sports. “The Spanish league is a lot more competitive than the Portuguese one. It’s a competition with a high rhythm, where everyone plays to win.”
The Portuguese international, according to Costinha, has not lived up to the lofty expectations that came from Benfica last summer with his move of €127 million to Atletico Madrid. But there is still hope:
“He’ll also have to adapt to what [Diego] Simeone asks of him, but I think that, sooner or later, he’ll adapt to those dynamics and they will be an asset.”
