The first division of Costa Rica will become the first soccer league in the Americas to play again after the break in play caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
This is of course if one excludes the Nicaraguan league, which actually never stopped,reports.
The Costa Rican government declared on Monday that professional sports can start from May 15.
Indeed, Julian Solano, president of the Costa Rican federation (UNAFUT) announcing that play will restart behind closed doors on Wednesday May 20.
“Football returns to our fields following a lengthy delay beginning on May 20 and continuing Monday, Wednesday and Saturday before the season is finished.” Solano said in a video press conference. “If there’s a big final it’s going to be July 1.”
The league will be allowing five substitutions per game, he confirmed.
