Atletico Madrid should be rewarded for their win over Liverpool Champions League title holders, according to Atletico chairman Enrique Cerezo.
Cerezo suggested the 2019-20 edition champions should be the team that knocked out the reigning champions. Thus, Atletico can take out the cup if this season’s competition can’t be ended.
“In the hypothetical case that the coronavirus did not [let] the Champions League play, the champion should be the one who wins the champion,” Cerezo said to Mundo Deportivo.
However, he went on to say, “Still, there are few knockout games, the quarter-finals, the semis and the final.
“There are 11 teams left available, including the Champions League final round, which will be four rounds. I imagine the government is waiting to see how the pandemic is developing and to take the decision it is considering.
“We understand that UEFA is seeking to centralize all these matches in one city, Spain, Portugal were speaking about it… nothing is known yet.”
