Edinson Cavani has long agreed on terms with Atletico Madrid, and Inter has only ever been an alternative for him, according to recent reports.
Indeed, Inter transfer specialists fcinternews.it now say that Cavani was never really bound for San Siro anyway, as he had signed a pre-contract deal with Atletico Madrid months before.
After weeks of speculation, particularly after Dries Mertens decided to extend his contract with Napoli, former teammate Ander Herrera told AS that Cavani “would like to play in Spain.”
The striker is a free agent with his contract with Paris Saint-Germain due to expire on June 30, so he can sign for another club already. And latest news claim that the Uruguay international had agreed on a two-year deal worth 10 million euros per season.
After the Mertens turnaround, Cavani was apparently an option considered, but negotiations never really got underway.
Whether Atletico Madrid is willing to deposit the current contract or is seeking to renegotiate the terms in a post-COVID-19 environment remains to be seen.
