Young Celtic winger Barry Hepburn has been marked by Bayern Munich as a potential catch for the summer transfer, believes.
The 16-year-old still had a year to run on his youth registration but he had been given his first professional deal by the Hoops to stay on. The Scotland Under-17s starlet is now thought to have left them dissatisfied after refusing to take this offer and wanting to go overseas.
Had he moved inside Scotland, the additional year on his youth contract would have given the Parkhead club a greater impact. But UEFA does not accept that level of contract – meaning that cross-border transfer at the age of Hepburn has damaged their position.
It’s the second time the Hoops lost a youth player to the German champions in 12 months, after last summer’s defender Liam Morrison transferred there. Morrison spent the season playing for the Under-17 team of Bayern, which is managed by former German international Miroslav Klose. Now he will be probably joined by ex-clubmate Hepburn.
In all, the Bundesliga giants are optimistic that they will make an agreement that would allow them to get Hepburn this summer.
